I also have had problems with Optical Express in New Kirkgate-Leith-Edinburgh.
Due to an extra eye test needed(have Polymyalgia Rheumatica) After being diagnosed I went for an eye test as this can affect your vision.. After a lenghthy eye test I was precribed with glasses at a total cost to me-a pensioner-of the pricely sum of £220.00.
Just over a year later I carefully laid my glasses on the window sill to have a shower. On putting them carefully on,as I always did- they literally fell apart in my hands. On inspection I see the lenses were held together with nothing more than what resembles fishing plastic-slightly stronger than floss you buy to floss your teeth. I was very angry and returned to the shop to be told my guarantee had run out weeks before and they were VERY UNHELPFULL !!!!!! I will not be recommending Optical Express to anyone ever again !! Shoddy workmanship, unhelpfull, money grabbers>if I had dropped my glasses or sat on them-I could understand, but at that price I treated them VERY carefully.
I am disgusted with their service and feel like bringing this to the attention of Watchdog-which I have been urged to do. I see I am only one of hundreds disatisfied with this crowd of robbers.

It's nasty stuff, but you can ask for an alternative prep. I've read about the energy drinks etc which I did do, but still felt as though I was going to collapse. They can also offer you an enema instead. Insteresting re the sedation - I only found out today that I stopped breathing during my last colonoscopy 15 months ago, cos they reckon I was given too much pethidine. So today I was only allowed half the dosage of that and the bendoz that they give. I had polyps removed again today, and it looks like I will have to have the appendectomy that I was hoping not to. It is an unpleasant procedure, but I was told I was very good ! :) which I was to be fair to myself. Just remember to ask about your choices with the prep and sedation. They don't put you out on the nhs as far as I'm aware.

I posted ages ago about having to go to Germany in 2010 for colonoscopy and having bowel cancer removed. My update is that i have now lost 30kilo and totally all of my independance. I get out one day a week with an adult supporter that the Social services provide, and i have another carer who comes in 2-3 days a week to help me shower and wash my hair.

I am now diagnosed with Malnutrition, Muscle Wastage, Dehydration, Gastro Esopogeal Reflux Disease, Helicobacter Pylori, which still chewing away at my stomach as they wont investigate the strain and give me the exact medication to eradicate it, infected Terminal Ileum, Hiatus Hernia, Peptic, Duodenal and Gastric Ulcers, Gastritis and Gastroparesis, (the latter being that my stomach doesnt empty, so i am never hungry and if i am lucky i intake 400-500 calories a day). In other words i am rotton inside, not that anyone cares.

The Council have me bodily alarmed as i am so ill and weak that i fall a lot, and i wear this alarm and push it when i fall or my muscles go into spasm leaving me screaming in agony, and a team are sent out to make me comfortable. That is great, but i am STILL unable to access medical care or treatment.

My only option, after a lot of research, is to move to Germany and register that I am resident, and as i have just been awarded my pension, I can get a German Medical Card and sign on with a German GP and get the treatment i need to preserve my life.

i just want to wish you all well with your procedures, take as much Sedation as you can get (there is a chart if you google Madazolam by Age) and it tells you how many milligrammes you should have, because you shouldn't have to suffer.

I have a team set up to get me settled in in Germany, but i am left to wonder why my estranged husband served 9 tours in Northern Ireland, The Falklands and went into Bosnia when that kicked off...and now my young son is going to Afghan again, having told me to use his wages for medical care....I worked all my life, had and brought up 8 children, going back to work within 2 weeks of delivery, except after one Cesarian, and all out dues were paid, yet i cannot get treated in my own Country. Wherever you are living, for God sake dont move to Lincolnshire because to be ill is a waste of resoueces and they dont want to treat you.

My 'estranged husband'?? I always laugh at this, the Social Services and Council TOLD me to leave the family home, set me up with my care package, and said that as i would be living alone and classed as 'at risk', the Medical services would HAVE to get on and treat me....lol, well, they tried i suppose bless them, so now i live 'up' the road and hubby lives 'down' the road...
Take care, ask as many questions as you need to and i hope you are looked after better than i was/am by those who are paid a fortune to provide the service they trained for.
